Our Stories

Jim and Julie

When we moved to Omaha in 1996 we were encouraged to stay away from the inner city.  We felt as Christians, maybe God was calling us to work in that part of the city.  When we found Harvest, we were pleased because it is biblically based and with a heart for the inner city and missions.  We also appreciated the variety and quality of the praise part of worship. There is a variety of types and genres of music.  Preaching is biblical and focused on "rightly dividing the word."  The leadership was strong and focused on seeing God be glorified as we delight in Him.  There is a blend of different economic, spiritual maturity and ethnicity at Harvest.

We have also seen Harvest grow in mercy ministry.  Being in this neighborhood we find many souls looking for a god in different forms.  The church has grown in how to minister to such a diverse group of people.  There is a strong mercy ministry in helping others especially single mothers.  The women of the church continue to provide spiritual guidance and sometimes physical bread to the lost of the area.

For a “smaller” church we have a global missions focus.  We support a Romanian church planter and a Bulgarian missionary.  In the past 2 years we have sent mission teams to the US/Mexico border, Mexico, Romania, the Philippines, Uganda, China, and Columbia.  There are opportunities for people to share their faith locally and internationally.

Harvest is a place to call home.  Our children have grown up under good teaching and practical application in mercy and missions.  Harvest is a place that people many walks of life call home.  We are thankful to call Harvest our church home!
